Stumble 02:47
You see me smiling down the lane and start to stumble, My knees go jelly, my defences start to crumble. I want no prizes anyway, ever so humble And it's the same thing everyday but mustn't grumble. Everywhere you go, everyone I see Like Colonel Custard in the library But it's alright. I turn my TV on today and start to wonder When every other expert say we done a blunder. My knees go jelly my defences start to crumble And it's the same thing everyday but mustn't grumble. Everywhere you go, everyone I see Like a screaming monkey in a library But it's alright. Everywhere you go, everyone I see Like a screaming monkey looking just like me But it's alright.

Divvy Cabs 02:57
Oh Divvy Cabs Divvy Divvy Divvy Cabs Where do they go? Can I get one? x4 Take me away from all this. Take me away from all this. Take me away from all this misery. Take me to somewhere kinder. Not dragging the past behind ya. Never go back, repeating history. Oh Divvy Cabs Divvy Divvy Divvy Cabs Where do they go? Can I get one? x4 Take me away from all this. Take me away from all this. Take me away from this hostility. Get me somewhere more forgiving. Wherever life's for living. Overflow me with kindness and civility. Oh Divvy Cabs Divvy Divvy Divvy Cabs Where do they go? Can I get one? x4

Sirens 02:55
It's the afternoon and I feel tired. There's the sound of sirens and an ice cream van outside. When the calls come they've got to go But they won't rescue anybody going that slow. I once thought that I was full of good ideas but I Haven't really had one now for years and years. I've got time on my hands and trouble in mind And I wish I could remember how to leave it all behind But my heart still skips a beat Even though I try to tell myself it's in retreat. Yes, my heart still can skip a beat.

GNER 02:12
I'm on a train thundering though the country. I'm on a train to another town. A geezer in a Marilyn Manson t shirt Asks an OAP to keep the music down. I'm on a train on the way to the football. I stretch my legs & stagger through the car. I step aside for when they bring the trolley Or a Liverpool Poet or a Britpop star. I'm on a train for a holiday. Ran out of patience several hours ago. I read my book and I read the paper But we've still got a coupla hundred miles to go. Ooh ooh ooh Should relax and enjoy the ride, Think of all the people in their lives outside. Watch the sheep and cows in the fields go by, See the chimneys and the steeples scraping though the sky. I'm on a train thundering though the country I'm on a train to another town. x2 I'm on a train to another town. x3

I got the pox, yeah I got it from a friend. I thought he was a friend on whom I could depend. I only went to see him with a little sympathy. When I got up to leave, he'd given it to me. I got the pox, yeah I read it in a book. Was feeling pretty crook. I thought I'd have a look. I looked up all the symptoms and it seems I've got the lot. I'm feeling pretty shot. But I know what I've got. I got the pox, yeah it really is upsetting. I wish I was forgetting the things that I'm regretting. I got the pox, yeah I don't know what to do. By the time this song is through I might it give it you. I got the pox x8

Life is troubled and life is tough in the 21st century. One weird trick that the experts hate could really set you free. You could be like me. When I run for the bus each morning, I keep a secret escape in mind. Wave it off as it pulls away, I leave my troubles behind. You can leave your troubles behind. And you'll find you feel better. It's so nice to get away, It's so nice to get away, For peace of mind, follow to the letter. It's so nice to get away, It's so nice to be okay. And if you find having one too many leaves you feeling peculiar, With a secret escape inside drift away to a foreign shore, Tap your foot on the locked door. And if you've got an exam to pass and the knowledge will not flow, Sing a secret escaping song, You'll be out before you know. You'll be some kind of hero. And you'll find you feel better. It's so nice to get away, It's so nice to get away, For peace of mind, follow to the letter. It's so nice to get away, It's so nice to be okay.

Uniform 02:52
She can't get a bus pass, and lives too far to walk. Doesn't see why she should pay to go where she don't want to anymore And so she packed it in, Didn't wait for leaver's day, When she could be getting paid, there's no choice to make. She doesn't want to wear a uniform, Doesn't want to look that way, Doesn't want the same thing day after day. She doesn't want to be a nobody, Doesn't want to live that way, Doesn't realise it won't happen anyway. Careers advisor, her dad took her off to see Took one look at her CV, Called in a favour or two And now she's training, in an outlet on the edge of town It's not the hours that get her down, But it still won't do. She doesn't want to wear a uniform, Doesn't want to look that way, Doesn't want the same thing day after day. She doesn't want to be a nobody, Doesn't want to fade away. Doesn't realise it won't happen anyway.

I have the vicar's dog, I said I would look after him. I take him for a walk Not lead him all astray. I have the vicar's dog, I've got to do my best for him. I make sure he's alright While the vicar is away. Woah woah woah See him run like a mad bag of scraps in the sunshine. Woah woah woah He's alright, chasing round, chase his tail But if the truth be known, the truth be known he's not the greatest dog in the world. I met the vicar's wife I thought she was his sister She seemed to be alright. We didn't have much to say. She turned off the landing light, I think she thought I fancied her, And bade us all good night But I didn't, not at all. Woah woah woah See her come down the lane on her bike every lunchtime. Woah woah woah She's a laugh, flying past, she's okay But if the truth be known, the truth be known she's not the greatest girl in the world. I am the vicar's dog. I don't think that he gets me. I take him for a walk. I'm always by his side. I am the vicar's dog. I think it is all over...

"...an abundance of killer hooks and deft melodies. Candid, quintessentially English...Check this and all their previous releases out, you won't be disappointed." Shindig! Magazine

"Quintessentially English, channeling many of the Kentish and bordering counties cannon of lo-fi mavericks and psychedelic eccentrics... Escapes is another brilliant curious songbook of melodic eccentricity from the Gare du Nord stable." Monolith Cocktail

"fearless indie-pop with a Barrettesque edge". Strange Brew Podcast

"Think Syd Barrett jamming with And The Native Hipsters and then have another think. Another wonderfully idiosyncratic record from Robert Halcrow where the Canterbury Scene is sucked into the Twilight Zone. " Thee Psychedelicatessen
